Fashion rules you should ignore!

Older women can wear two-piece bathing-suits blog post.

Fashion rules you should ignore; looking your best is not vanity but is a form of self-care. When we feel good about the way we look, it boosts our confidence, self-esteem and positively impacts our attitude and energy levels. This blog is my take on some of the fashion do’s and don’ts.

I do not know who decided that older women should not incorporate trends. Just because you hit a certain age doesn’t mean we need to start wearing elastic waist pants, lace-up shoes, and baggy tops. Incorporating some trends into your wardrobe keeps your style youthful, fresh, and fun!

I love the look of distressed denim. Fringe or frayed hems work great with flats and booties. I incorporate the look, mixing classic pieces like a white button blouse or blazer or the left picture. I wear a tunic top with a bomber jacket and booties.

One trend at a time, please. Wearing multiple trends at once looks like you are trying too hard.

Whoever invented leggings deserves a prize. There is nothing more comfortable and flattering than a class black or white legging. The high-waisted trend has made leggings even more comfortable, and they are an excellent option year-round. I recommend slimming tunic-length tops or swears that hit at the upper to mid-thigh. They should be quality pants—dark colors and completely opaque. I have seen way too many downward-facing dogs in thin tights, not a good site! The brands I recommend are Athletica, Hyde, Ideology.

Some trends can go the distance, but many often go out of style very quickly, so I would keep purchases minimal and budget-friendly.

Fashion Rule to IgnoreSequins and sparkle is only for the evening

There is nothing wrong with adding a little twinkle to your day. The trick is to incorporate accessories; beaded jewelry, metallic belts, and bags work well. For a casual look, dress down with denim, and for a professional look, incorporate a classic blazer or jacket.

Fashion Rules to Ignore

Older women should wear practical shoes.

No woman should wear 4-inch heels regardless of their age. However, if you are petite like I am, you want to wear heels to add height. Not to mention they are darn sexy!

Invest in quality shoes; your feet will thank you for it. A block style or wedge heel is comfortable and will allow you to go higher, but avoid stiletto-type heels higher than 2.5 inches.

Women should stop wearing skinny jeans at 47

I spotted this rule on the web and wondered how they picked the age of 47 as the point at which you should toss your skinny jeans. I am happy to say that skinny jeans and pants are no longer a trend and are here to stay! They are a staple in my wardrobe. Choose quality denim with a high waist to avoid the muffin top. The spandex in the denim will allow the fabric to form in your body without being too tight.

All three of the pants above are high-waisted and skinny. Along with the high-waisted look, this season, crop tops are in high demand!

Women shouldn’t wear a two-piece bathing suit after 35

Until a few years ago, I would have agreed with the statement above. I was quick to criticize any woman I saw on the beach with a two-piece on who was around my age. When I went on vacation in November of 2018, I brought the two-piece below along with a one-piece suit. It took some courage to put it on, though!

Nonsense!

Fashion rules you should ignore!

The bottom line is it doesn’t matter what other people think. Wear what makes you happy!
